North East India Education Summit 2019
In collaboration with
Department of Higher & Technical Education
Government of Mizoram
The Indian Education System has evolved over centuries, infused with mixed cultural influences. It has retained inherent exibility in its long journey over time and has absorbed developments in science and technology as well as the influence of foreign education system. There has been gradual transformation from an ancient to modernized education.
Policy makers are grappling with a whole range of challenges for improving educational outcomes – from school education to higher education. A greater emphasis on education of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) has gained salience in education policy, the core idea being to prepare the youth for jobs of tomorrow. Government of India has introduced a series of policy and regulatory changes in school education and higher education to make it more robust and meaningful.
The North-eastern region, for reasons of history and remote geography has lagged behind the rest of the country in its quest for development. The quality of educational attainment in the eight states of this region deserves a much sharper policy focus.
Hon’ble Prime Minister has said “I have always maintained that India’s growth story shall never be complete until the eastern part of our country progresses at par with the western part. The north east can be the new engine of India’s growth.” In this context, a speci c attention to the educational policies in the region, which is the bedrock of human development, merit a special attention.
